Challenge

Dairy farming may generate daily income, but for many of India’s small dairy farmers, formal financial systems remain out of reach. Without payslips, documented earnings or conventional credit histories, farmers can struggle to qualify for formal loans despite receiving regular payments for their milk.

Many turn instead to informal lenders, where higher interest rates can make it harder to invest in cattle, equipment or farm improvements. Insurance presents another obstacle. Without reliable ways to identify individual bovines and assess their value and productivity, farmers may find it difficult to obtain formal loans to further invest in their dairy operations.

Solution

Digivriddhi Technologies Private Limited (DGV) addresses this gap by using data that farmers already generate through their dairy operations: milk-pouring records. Its platform uses records captured when farmers supply milk to dairy processors as an additional source of evidence of recurring income.

DGV Money enables lending partners, including banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), to assess dairy farmers’ creditworthiness using their milk-pouring income. This helps make their earnings more visible during credit assessments and facilitates access to collateral-free loans, subject to lenders’ eligibility criteria and credit assessments.

DGV Connect links credit directly to productive purchases. Farmers select cattle or equipment through a digital marketplace, and loans can be sanctioned in as little as 45 minutes after eligibility, biometric and credit checks. Payment goes to the seller once the bovine is handed over, creating a clear trail from loan to asset.

DGV Digital Insurance adds protection. Artificial intelligence and muzzle recognition give each bovine a unique digital identity, while real-time digital health certificates support traceability and insurance underwriting. In effect, a bovine’s muzzle becomes its biometric record.

Together, the three platforms connect farmers, dairy processors, lenders, sellers and insurers. Revenue from lending and processing fees, marketplace transactions, health certificates and insurance commissions supports the model’s financial sustainability.

DGV has enabled more than 1 million unique dairy farmers across seven Indian states to access formal financial services, facilitating loan disbursements through its lending ecosystem.

Impact

Between January 2024 and September 2026, DGV enabled more than 1 million unique dairy farmers across seven Indian states to access formal financial services, facilitating loan disbursements through its lending ecosystem.

DGV’s integrated approach aims to strengthen digital financial infrastructure for rural India by connecting dairy farmers and the wider dairy ecosystem to formal credit, livestock insurance, digital bovine health certificates and marketplace services, with the potential to expand into farm equipment and micro-dairy enterprise financing. By combining dairy-sector data with technology-led lending and insurance solutions, DGV enables financial institutions to reach underserved rural communities more efficiently.

DGV’s key impact metrics demonstrate the scale of this ecosystem:

• More than 1 million dairy farmers represented in the dairy ecosystem and financial data network.

• 95 per cent of dairy loans on the Reserve Bank of India’s Unified Lending Interface (ULI) powered by DGV, reflecting its role in enabling digital dairy lending through the platform.

• 100 per cent digital loan journeys, enabling end-to-end digital processing without a paper-based journey.

• Presence across seven states, with 67 per cent women beneficiaries, highlighting the platform’s contribution to women’s financial inclusion.

• More than 42,853 digital bovine health certificates issued.

• More than 4,454 bovines insured, helping dairy farmers access livestock risk protection.

• More than 4,139 bovines sold through the digital marketplace ecosystem, connecting livestock buyers and sellers.

By making dairy-related income and livestock information more accessible to ecosystem partners, DGV seeks to help farmers build stronger pathways to formal finance and productive investment. Its approach is designed to support greater financial inclusion while enabling lenders and other partners to serve the dairy sector more effectively.

Future outlook

DGV’s immediate priorities are to strengthen its partnerships with banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), expand its technology integrations and deepen the connections between lending, productive asset purchases and livestock insurance. The company plans to onboard five additional banking or NBFC partners and enable deeper, integrated implementations with two lenders across its core platforms.

Over the longer term, DGV aims to explore expansion into two to three markets across Africa and Southeast Asia over the next three to five years, working with suitable local partners. It also sees an opportunity to contribute to the development of digital infrastructure for bovine identity, health certification, livestock traceability and livestock-linked finance.

As the platform evolves, DGV intends to extend its capabilities to support financing for farm equipment, micro-dairy enterprises and other rural productive activities. Its broader ambition is to help make rural livelihoods more visible and financially assessable, enabling farmers to access the services and investments needed to build more resilient livelihoods.

Digivriddhi Technologies Private Limited (DGV) is India’s first Integrated Dairy FinTech, InsurTech, and Marketplace platform, serving over 80 million dairy farmers with a core mission to revolutionize access to banking and financial services, marketplace and insurance needs for dairy farmers and dairy micro-enterprises. Our platform offers:
• DGV MONEY – providing digital dairy loans to farmers and milk societies.
• DGV CONNECT – a dairy marketplace with embedded finance.
• DGV Digital Insurance – AI-powered bovine health scoring and insurance using muzzle recognition. Our PHYGITAL approach combines technology and onground presence to deliver a frictionless BFSI experience tailored to rural needs.

We aim to:
• Double farmers’ incomes and milk Yield
• Digitize dairy finance, Insurance and marketplace for Bovines and Dairy requirements
